How this helps you
Separate aliases keep different sign-ups and senders apart.
Make a tagged alias of your email for [purpose], like yourname+[tag]@. Then create a routine that runs only when mail arrives at that alias and does this: [what to do]. Keep any replies as drafts for me. Tell me the alias and the routine name.
Fill in: [purpose]: one stream of mail, e.g. supplier invoices. [tag]: a short word like shop or leads. [what to do]: e.g. save the invoice details to my sheet.
What they did
In the 18 October update video, Matt Palmer from the Grok Bot team says Bots can now use plus-addressed aliases, which he says effectively gives your Bots unlimited email addresses, and that you just ask your Bot in chat to make one. The official changelog (0.71.2) fills in the routing question: Bots can send from a tagged form of their email address, like name+shop@, and a routine on that tag runs only for its mail.
Who it's for: People who use the Bot's email for sign-ups or forwarding.
How to try it
- Claim a Bot email address first (ask the Bot to claim one).
- Ask the Bot to make a tagged alias for one purpose, for example +shop or +leads.
- Use that alias for one kind of mail only: sign-ups, a supplier, or a lead form.
- Ask the Bot to create a routine triggered by email to that tag. Per the changelog it runs only for mail sent to that tag.
- Send a test email to the alias and check the routine ran and the other tags didn't.
What to expect
The Bot replies with an address like yourbot+shop@ and a routine that fires only for mail to that tag.
Common mistakes
- Asking before your Bot has an address.
- Using one alias for everything, so a routine fires on mail it shouldn't handle.
- Letting routine replies send unchecked. Routine sends wait as drafts by default; keep it that way until you trust it.
Related tips
- Give your Bot its own email address: Ask your Bot to claim an address so you can forward or CC it, and so it can sign up for accounts itself.
- Forward new leads to your Bot's inbox: A Gmail filter forwards leads to a tagged Bot address; a routine on that tag researches each one before you reply.
- Week of 20 Oct: email aliases, tag @bot, voice-call memory: Email aliases, tag @bot on X, voice-call memory, Android assistant, faster computer.
- Three email-triggered Bots from the Grok Bot team's demo: Give Bots its email: one reviews your Google Docs from its own Google account, one fact-checks deal newsletters, one logs receipts sent to a plus alias.
Worth knowingRouting detail is from changelog 0.71.2; the 'unlimited' wording is Matt Palmer's from the video at 1:21.
