Your First Week With Grok Bot: A Day-by-Day Plan
Most people try to automate their life on day one and get a routine that breaks. This plan builds one skill at a time, in the order the official docs and experienced users recommend: a checkable task, one app, safe logins, a skill, a routine, then a Page. Each day links to the tips with full steps.
Day 1: one small task you can check
Start with something you can check in two minutes. The official get started guide suggests attaching a document and trying this. No app connection or login needed.
Summarize this document in five bullets. List every date, decision, and open question in a separate section. Cite the page or section for each item. Do not change the source file.
From the official docs
Check the answer against the document. If something is off, tell the Bot what to fix. That correction is the skill you are learning.
Tips for this step: Make your first task boring, Make an executive assistant your first Bot
Day 2: give your Bot one job and connect one app
Tell your Bot what its job is and ask it to remember. Then describe a real task and let it ask for the app it needs, instead of connecting everything up front. Prefer a connector over the browser when one exists.
Your job is [one job]. Remember this for future work. Here is the first task: [task]. Tell me which app you need access to and walk me through connecting it.
Tips for this step: Let your Bot ask for the access it needs, Connectors before the browser, Connect your apps from chat, or through one MCP hub
Day 3: set up logins and approvals safely
All your Bots share one cloud computer, so a login one Bot uses is there for every Bot. Save logins in Vault or use 1Password, never paste a password into chat, and take over the computer for two-factor codes. Decide now whether to save a card: a saved card can be used at checkout without asking each time. The approvals docs also suggest setting Settings, Computer, Your computer to Never allow unless a Bot needs your local files.
Tips for this step: Vault: logins, cards and contact info, A safety baseline before sharing logins, Use your 1Password with Grok Bot
Day 4: do a real job by hand, then save it as a skill
Pick a job you do every week. Do it once in chat and correct the Bot until it is right. Do it a second time. When it works twice, ask the Bot to save it as a skill.
That worked. Save what you just did as a skill: when to use it, what inputs and access it needs, the steps, how to check the result, and what needs my approval.
Tips for this step: Do it by hand, save a skill, then schedule, Teach a task by doing it once, Write the outcome, not the recipe
Day 5: turn the skill into a one-line routine
Make the routine short: the schedule says when, the skill says how. A new routine waits for its next scheduled time, so use Test to try it now, and remember Test does real work. Pick the slowest schedule that still works (help page).
Create a routine that runs every [day] at [time]: run the [skill name] skill end to end. Before I save it, show me which Bot owns it, the schedule and time zone, where the result goes, and what needs my approval.
Tips for this step: Keep routines one line long, Make routines cheaper: events, slow schedules, change checks, Put quiet hours inside the routine itself
Day 6: ask for a Page instead of a long message
For anything you will look at again, such as a weekly scoreboard or a comparison, ask for a Page. It lives in the Bot's Library and stays private until you share it (Pages help).
Make a page that [purpose], with [a table / chart / short recommendation]. Keep it private.
Tips for this step: Pages: reports and dashboards that stay up to date, Build a weekly before-and-after scoreboard from a Google Sheet, Share a Page by link, and know who can see and edit it
Day 7: review, write the rules down, and decide on a second Bot
Look at what worked this week. Move the rules you rely on into the Bot's description so a copy of the Bot keeps them. Check your usage. Only add a second Bot if a separate job keeps coming up.
Read your current description and the things you've learned from our chats. Draft a new description with: your one job, the sources you treat as the truth, what you never do, and what needs my approval first. Show me the draft and don't save it until I say yes.
Tips for this step: Keep lasting rules in the description, not memory, Check usage and update your Bot's computer in Settings, One job per Bot
After week one
Add one new routine a week at most, and only for a job that has worked by hand twice. When something breaks, start with troubleshooting. For more to paste, see prompts by job.
