How this helps you
You avoid running out of usage mid-week and know the first places to look when the Bot feels stuck.
Before you start, tell me if this job is likely to be a big one for my usage, and split it into smaller steps I can approve one at a time: [job].
Fill in: [job] is the big task you're about to hand over.
What they did
Early in his tutorial Charlie Chang opens Settings from his name in the bottom left. He points out two things worth knowing before you lean on Grok Bot. First, Usage and billing shows a meter: once it reaches 100% you cannot use Grok Bot until it resets or you buy more. Second, there is a section to update both the app and your Bot's computer. Because each account runs its own Linux computer, he says you should update it every so often. There is also a reset option for when the computer gets stuck, which he advises using rarely.
Who it's for: New users, and anyone whose Bot feels slow or stuck.
How to try it
- Click your name in the bottom left of the app and open Settings.
- Open Usage and billing and note where the meter sits before a big job.
- Update the app when an update is offered. Since 11 Oct the Bot's computer updates on its own in the background, and Settings shows it separately from your computer (changelog).
- If the computer is stuck, try a reset, but treat it as a last resort.
What to expect
You see a percentage of weekly usage. Kacper Rutkiewicz used the same meter in his Pages video to show that building several pages barely moved his usage on a higher plan.
Common mistakes
- Running out of usage mid-week because you never looked at the meter.
- Resetting the computer as a first fix. Charlie says not to do this often. What a reset clears is not covered in the video, so we haven't verified it; back up anything important first.
Related tips
- Analyse your own usage CSV: Export usage from the Usage page and ask your Chief of Staff Bot how to cut it.
- Back up your whole Bot setup: Have each Bot document its job, rules, skills and routines into a recovery doc, kept current monthly.
- Connectors before the browser: One task got about 45x cheaper by switching to a connector.
- Keep a restore skill for when your Bot's computer is updated: Files and logins survive a computer update; installed tools don't. A restore skill puts them back in one message.
- Clean up a messy folder safely: plan first, move after you approve: A cleaner Bot finds exact duplicates and proposes where every file goes. Nothing moves until you approve, and it checks every file is still there afterwards.
- Out of usage? Run these five checks before you buy credits: Grok Bot says you're out of usage but you still have credit? Check the weekly pool, the monthly cap, the meter, the account, then what's eating it.
