Grok Bot Plans, Usage Limits and Top-ups

Last updated · By The Grok Bot Guide, an unofficial, independent site

Short answer: Grok Bot comes with Premium, Super or Ultra on The X Subscription, where it shares one weekly pool with Cursor and Grok, or with eligible legacy Cursor, SuperGrok and Grok Business plans. When the weekly pool runs out you can pay for extra usage, but set a monthly limit first, because a run in progress can finish past it.

TL;DR
  • No separate Grok Bot subscription: it rides on your plan.
  • The X Subscription: one weekly pool for Grok Bot, Cursor and Grok; extras from prepaid credit.
  • Legacy plans: weekly grant, then on-demand up to a monthly limit.
  • Plans and SuperGrok links don't stack.
  • Routines that run often are the usual reason a pool empties early.

Which plans include Grok Bot

Grok Bot has no separate subscription. You get it through one of these, per the official Plans and billing page:

We don't list prices because they change; check your plan page. The X Subscription is one plan that brings Grok, Cursor and X together; switching to it is optional and permanent (What is The X Subscription?). If you are deciding whether to switch, read Before you unify your Cursor, Grok and X subscriptions first.

How usage works

On The X Subscription

Grok Bot is "one more product on your plan". Its usage draws from the same weekly pool as Cursor and the Grok apps, not from a separate Grok Bot meter, and the pool refreshes weekly. When it runs out, extra Grok Bot usage is paid from prepaid credit. You check usage under Usage at grok.com/dashboard. Third-party models in Cursor, such as Claude or GPT, aren't included in the plan and are paid from credit at API list prices (Plans and billing, X Subscription overview).

Because the pool is shared, heavy Grok Bot routines can leave less for Grok and Cursor in the same week, and the other way round.

On legacy Cursor plans and account links

You get a weekly grant shown as Weekly usage limit. When it runs out, Grok Bot keeps going as On-demand usage only if on-demand is enabled, billed through Cursor and capped by the On-demand monthly limit (called Spending, Monthly Limit on the web). If on-demand is off, Grok Bot stops and says you have reached your usage limit until the weekly reset.

Plans and links don't stack

A Cursor plan and a SuperGrok or X Premium+ link don't add together: Grok Bot uses whichever grants more. Pro, SuperGrok and X Premium+ are the same tier; Pro+ and SuperGrok Plus are the same; Ultra and SuperGrok Heavy are the same. A link is permanent and can't be moved to another Cursor account, so sign in with the right account first (help). Usage is shared between your desktop and phone apps.

Out of usage? Check these in order

Kacper Rutkiewicz built a five-step check from the docs and staff replies (Out of usage? Run these five checks before you buy credits). In short:

  1. Weekly pool. How much of this week is used? It refreshes weekly.
  2. Monthly cap. On the billing page, is the monthly additional usage limit already reached? Credit and cap are separate: buying more credit doesn't raise the cap.
  3. Which meter. If you never switched to The X Subscription, Grok Bot is probably metered on your Cursor account (Settings, Usage & Billing), so Grok or X credit won't unblock it.
  4. Which account. If your plan landed on the wrong account, contact support rather than buying a second plan.
  5. What is using it. Ask your Bot, or open the usage breakdown by Bot (See which Bot is burning usage in Settings).

Set a cap before you top up

Brock Mesarich's advice after the early-November limit reports: if you turn on extra usage, set a monthly ceiling first, because an overnight loop or a media job can keep spending (YouTube, Set a hard monthly cap before you buy additional usage). Where to set it:

  • The X Subscription: grok.com/dashboard/billing, under Additional usage credits. Buy credit, choose whether Auto Top-up is on, and set the monthly additional usage limit.
  • Legacy Cursor plans: in Grok Bot, Settings, Usage & Billing, On-demand monthly limit. If it asks for a card, finish at cursor.com/dashboard under Spending. Mobile-app subscribers set it on the web.

Gotcha: "A limit is not a hard stop in the middle of a run." A Bot already working can finish past it, and then extra usage stops until you raise the limit or the cycle resets (help). Pick a number you'd be fine spending in full.

Make the pool last

The official Routines page says each run spends usage, and "an hourly schedule, a short interval, or a Slack trigger on a busy channel can use a week of usage in a day". It suggests pausing routines you don't need and widening schedules before you raise a limit. A routine that never runs spends nothing; Test does spend, because it does the work (Routines help).

From creators, tested on their own accounts:

Which of my routines and Bots used the most usage in the last 7 days? List the top five with how often each runs, and suggest a less frequent schedule or a narrower trigger for each. Don't change anything yet.
Pause every routine that hasn't produced anything I acted on in the last two weeks. Show me the list first and wait for my yes.

Free trial and referral resets

Trial. The Grok Bot free trial is a usage credit with a 7-day window, not a set number of messages. It is drawn down by agent steps and tokens, so one large job can use most of it, and used credit isn't restored. The help page's advice: start small, scope tasks tightly and check usage before long jobs. An App Store intro offer is different and becomes a paid Apple subscription unless you cancel it in Apple settings (help).

Referrals. Grok Bot on The X Subscription has its own referral programme, rolling out gradually. Referrers need a paid individual Premium, Super or Ultra plan billed in the US, bought on the web, at least 7 days after checkout. A friend who signs up through your link gets their first 2 weeks of Grok Bot free. You get a usage reset recorded 7 days after their first payment, valid for 6 months, shown under Settings, Usage as a Usage Limit Reset once resets are enabled for your account. Look for the gift icon at the bottom left of the desktop app (referral help).

The early-November usage reports

In early November many users reported weekly limits arriving earlier than before, after Elon Musk commented on the cost of serving Grok Bot. Creators covering it note that the size of any change is unpublished and that "about half" figures are anecdotal (Brock Mesarich, our video summaries). The official help pages above are the reliable reference; check them before you change plans.

Frequently asked questions

Is Grok Bot free?

No. There is a free trial (a usage credit with a 7-day window). After that it comes with Premium, Super or Ultra on The X Subscription, or eligible legacy Cursor, SuperGrok or Grok Business plans.

Does Grok Bot share usage with Grok and Cursor?

On The X Subscription, yes: one weekly pool covers Grok Bot, Cursor and the Grok apps. On legacy Cursor plans, Grok Bot uses its own weekly grant on your Cursor account.

Can I reset my Grok Bot usage limit?

Included usage refreshes weekly. Beyond that, the official routes are paid extra usage (prepaid credit or on-demand, up to a monthly limit) and, where available, a referral usage reset. We found no other official manual reset.

I have credit left, so why does it say I am out of usage?

Usually the monthly additional usage limit is reached. Credit and cap are separate, so raise the cap rather than buying more credit. Also check you are looking at the right meter and account.

Do a Cursor plan and SuperGrok add together?

No. Grok Bot uses whichever grants more weekly usage. Pro, SuperGrok and X Premium+ are the same tier.

Does pressing Test on a routine use usage?

Yes. Test does the real work, so it spends usage like a normal run.

Is usage shared between my Mac and my phone?

Yes. Desktop and phone apps use the same usage bucket on your signed-in account.

Is this page official?

No. It is an independent summary of the official help pages, checked on 8 November 2026. Plans change, so confirm on the official pages before you buy.
