Grok Bot on Your Phone
Short answer: install the Grok Bot app on iPhone or Android and sign in with your desktop account; your Bots and their computer come with you. Then let it use Calendar, Contacts, Alarms and Location, put it on the Action Button or Siri, and manage routines and alerts from the Bot's profile.
- Same account, Bots, computer and usage as desktop. Don't pay twice.
- Phone apps: Calendar, Contacts, Alarms, Location, with your permission.
- One press: Action Button, Siri, share sheet, voice calls.
- Routines can be added, paused and checked from the phone.
- Computer updates and resets stay on desktop.
Set it up in three steps
- Install the current Grok Bot app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
- Sign in with the same account you use on desktop. Your Bots, chats and their cloud computer are the same ones.
- If your account already includes Grok Bot, don't buy again in the app; access carries over (Grok Bot on mobile).
Usage is shared between desktop and phone, so a voice chat on your phone draws on the same weekly pool (plans and usage).
Let it use your phone's apps
When you allow it, a Bot on your phone can use your Calendar, Contacts, Alarms and Location (help). On iPhone, open Connect apps in the Grok Bot app and switch to the iPhone tab to allow each one (as shown in the meeting alarms tip below). Good first jobs:
- Have your Bot set phone alarms for today's meetings: a morning routine that sets an alarm before each meeting.
- Grok Bot can use your phone's apps: reminders and calendar entries from one sentence.
On Android, version 1.18.0 removed the ability to read your phone's notifications, so the app no longer asks for that access. Nothing is broken if the option is gone.
Every weekday at 7am, look at today's calendar and set a phone alarm 10 minutes before each meeting. Tell me which alarms you set.
Add a calendar event for [event] on [day] at [time], and remind me the evening before.
Reach your Bot in one press
- Action Button (iPhone 15 Pro or newer): Settings, Action Button, Shortcut, Grok Bot, Start Voice Chat. Press and hold to talk (Set Grok Bot as your iPhone Action Button).
- "Hey Siri, ask Grok Bot": a Shortcuts action that starts a voice chat, allowed to run when locked ("Hey Siri, ask Grok Bot").
- Ask about your screen: a community Action Button shortcut that sends what's on screen to your Bot and returns the answer as a notification (Ask Grok Bot about whatever is on your iPhone screen).
- Share sheet: send a link, post or photo straight to a Bot from any app (Tag @bot on X: say "send it to my bot").
- Voice calls carry over: call back within 30 minutes and it remembers the last call (Call your Bot back within 30 minutes and it remembers). The changelog says a voice call from your phone also wakes the Bot's sleeping computer, so it can act on what you said.
Routines from your phone
Open the Bot's profile and tap Add routine under Routines; the app starts a message "Set up a routine to", and you finish the sentence. Tap a routine to see Active, Schedule, Next run, Instruction and Run history. Turn off Active to pause it, and swipe the row to delete it. Run history shows each run as Running, Succeeded or Failed, with the reason for a failure (Routines help).
For something more advanced, Stop your iPhone alarm to start a webhook daily briefing uses an iPhone Shortcuts automation to start a webhook routine when you stop your morning alarm.
Notifications and approvals
- To silence one Bot, tap its name at the top of its chat and turn off Notifications. To silence all, turn off Notifications in the app's Settings (help).
- While you are using Grok Bot on a Mac or Windows PC, replies and questions notify you there instead of your phone (changelog).
- Approvals from routines or other Bots expire after about 30 minutes, so keep notifications on for Bots that run routines, or use Always allow for actions you trust (How Tos).
- Helper Bots that your Bots create notify you too; turn theirs off or hide them.
What still needs the desktop app
- Updating, recovering or resetting the Bot's computer is desktop only (help).
- Pages need app version 1.14.0 or later on the phone (Pages help).
- Sidebar sections on iOS need version 1.2.0 or later; touch and hold a Bot, then New Section. Sections sync with desktop (How Tos).
Real phone-first uses
- Have your Bot call a US business to lower a bill (Peter Yang).
- Drive coding agents from your phone, then verify on a preview link (Ben Davis), for coding on the go.
- Dad Bot: get your parents started for setting up a parent's phone.
